Every single person in the world who’s successful shows up to work, saying I wonder when they’ll find out. I don’t really know what I’m doing, and you know why, because anyone who says they’re pushing themselves out of their comfort zone. I put myself constantly in situations that I’m not comfortable because there’s no way to grow.
Do you do the same thing same thing and here’s the thing about it? They got this thing in their mind. The people that are average I got to prepare. I got to be totally ready, I’m not going to and these crazy people who actually rule the world who make all the change that make all the money they put themselves in environments constantly. They know they’re, not ready for and they’re like.
I will I’m going to get in the door, then I’ll figure it out then I’ll get in the door and I’ll figure it out, and so they tell you it’s okay to stop it’s okay, to settle it’s okay! To give up, and that is the instinct. You need to fight to push back to smash into the ground. I want you to stop crying.
I want you to stop begging. I want you to stop complaining and I want you to look at the man in the mirror and I want you to say if ain’t, nobody else giving more you give more, because it doesn’t matter what your social status is. It doesn’t matter how people perceive you when it comes down to.
How long can you stay in that pool when it comes down to how far can you run when it comes down to how much can you push yourself past the part where you want to quit? How far can you keep going? There’s a purity in that that dissolves social order, all that bulls*** all the what people think about you goes out the window. Who are you right now? Who are you right now? No one’s coming to push you no one’s coming to tell you to turn the tv off no one’s coming to tell you to get out the door and exercise the bottom line is no one’s coming when you become 18, when you move out of the house when You’re, an adult you have to parent yourself unless you understand that you’ve got to parent yourself, you got to push yourself you’re not going to make your dreams come true. What’s stopping you? Are you too tired didn’t get enough sleep, don’t have enough energy. Don’t have enough time is that what’s stopping you right now, don’t have enough money.
Is that the thing or is the thing? That’s stopping you you, nobody, you know, has actually created success without working their face off. It doesn’t exist, so you can sit and talk about luck and you can sit and talk about this that or the other thing, but I promise you the only controllable thing you have is your work ethic excuses sound best to the person, that’s making them up, stop Feeling, sorry for yourself get off the pity party, telling everybody you’re, sad and sob stories trying to get people to show up to your pity parties and your pity parades. If you ever see me in a rolls royce a 6 or 7 star hotel living my life to the fullest, don’t get jealous of me, because I worked my ass off to get it. Nobody handed me nothing.
You should push yourself beyond your limits of tolerance in your 20s to find out where it is. How much can you work? How discipline can you become like? Can you work 12 hours a day? Can you work 8 hours a day? Can you work 3 hours a day like flat out where’s your limit? How much work can you do and how much socialisation you should find out push yourself past and then back off to that point, where it’s optimally sustainable? It’s good to think about that as a goal. It’s like you’re trying to discover what your limitations are when you’re in your 20s, so that you can hit that edge so that you can sustain yourself across the decades too much fun takes you out.
You don’t want to be the oldest guy at the disco. You know it’s not fun being the 40 year old at the singles bar precisely. You want to make sure that what you’re doing is age appropriate and you want to push yourself in every direction that you can.
But you should be doing that with an aim in mind. Just like you’re trying to make yourself into a better and more competent person, and so some discipline along with the fun, is a good idea. I told you I wake up at 3 o’clock in the morning. I just woke up recently and it was 245 and the average person in me said et just pull the covers back over.
It’s okay, you got 15 minutes, but the phenomenal in me said et. If you go back to sleep for those 15 minutes, there’s no guarantee you’re going to get up at 3 o’clock. If you go back to sleep right now, you might wake up and it’s 4 o’clock, you might wake up and it’s 5 o’clock.
You might wake up and it’s 6 o’clock. All you have is right. Now are those 15 minutes that sweet that you’re going to push back your dream that you’re going to push back your goal? Everything you’ve ever wanted: son you’re right there, you’re, so close you’re closer than you’ve ever been before those 15 minutes are not worth the rest of your life. Those 15 minutes are not worth you slipping down the chart.
That is not worth it because if you wake up at 330, some other kid’s getting up at 3 and he’s got 30 minutes on you today. So I need you not only to want to be a beast. I need you to get in beast mode.
Run strain sprint, go as fast as you can. I want you to strain. I want you to learn how to strain. It’s not comfortable, but it’s a choice you get to make 95 % of our decisions are made by how you feel in the moment, and that is the problem.
Do you feel like making that cold call? No, you don’t do you feel like doing that 3rd set of reps? No, you don’t, and if you accept the fact that you may never feel ready and you may never feel motivated and you may never feel courageous and that’s okay, but you can still push yourself forward. As you start to see yourself becoming the person that takes action. Guess what happens you build the skill of confidence and courage, so I set my alarm. I make sure I’m up by sunrise.
I get out of bed, I put on my gear and I head downstairs, but when I get there kobe’s already there with ice packs on his knees drenched in sweat. Now it took me a minute to figure it out, but this guy wasn’t only awake before me. He had already worked out.
He had just played in the finals days earlier. Meanwhile, I’ve been off for months and I was still exhausted. What he had done that morning was incomprehensible to me that dedication he had only days after falling short of an nba championship that taught me something I’ve, never forgotten legends aren’t defined by their successes, they’re defined by how they bounce back from their failure force yourself to Do it say you’re, a general, the brain is a general, the troops of the body. The troops said I don’t want to listen and you go f***, you, you listen and you get up and you do it just do it make yourself do it, and if you do that, if you write down and do that, you can change who the f*** you Are you’re right? There keep going just put your head down, keep working and keep going, no matter what happens just keep going.
What I always say is put a championship routine in place. You know whatever that routine. Is you wake up every single day and that’s what holds you accountable? No matter if you win or you lose no matter how you feel you know that eventually it’s going to pay off for you, you have to work harder than you think you possibly can it’s hard, but you can’t hold grudges and it doesn’t matter how you get Knocked down in life because that’s going to happen, all the matters is that you got to get up.
